Field Trip Anyone?

The Buzz: New knitting shop coming to Appleton

Reader question: It looks like a knitting shop is going in next to Avenue Jewelers on College Avenue in Appleton. Do you know anything about it?

Answer: Casting On is the name of the new yarn shop opening by the end of January. It’s at 305 E. College Ave. in downtown Appleton, the location of the former Two Paws Up pet treat bakery that closed in February. The building is under renovation now.

Casting On owner Sara Rabideau was one of many knitters dejected at the loss of Iris Fine Yarns, a shop that closed in October.

“It was the only place to get fine yarn within 50 miles,” she said. “I was a little shocked, and I said to my wife Sam, ‘where am I going to go?’ She said, ‘open a yarn shop.’”

Rabideau said she met a number of times with Iris’ Phyllis Gillespie to figure out the must-have yarns.

Besides the retail side, Casting On will have knit and crochet classes and space for people to work on personal projects.

“We want it to have a community feel that a yarn shop should have,” she said. “When you come in, you want to feel that you belong to a community.”

Don't Forget!

The BLKG December meeting in this coming Thursday, December 20 (already?).  I hope by now you've got your dishcloth all knitted up, blocked, and ready to go to a new home,

that you have something tasty figured out to bring to tempt our tastebuds,

and that you've filled out the exhaustive survey that President-elect Carol S. sent/handed out so you can bring it along too.  If you've misplaced it or it got lost in the ether, shoot me an email and I'll ask Carol to resend it.

See you in a couple days.  I'm hungry already!

Ho-Ho-Ho-

Ho-hope you're working on your dishcloth for the exchange at the December BLKG meeting on Thursday, December 20th.  And thinking about what goodies you're going to take to share.  I'm still cogitating on what I'll make to take but I've picked out the pattern I'll make.  Not the yarn--yet but I'll get there in a day or two and get it cast on.

I'm not going to show you what pattern I've chosen or what yarn I'm thinking about but I will show you a few of the dishcloths I have made in the past.

You don't want to miss this meeting.  There'll be no business, only fun, laughter, and maybe a bit of knitting.
