Road Trip

Two Little Sheep went to the Door County Shepherd’s Market

Sheep are naturally water repellant and even the dense fog could not dampen the spirits as Terri Sipes and Laura Quinn traveled to Door County to take in Northeast Wisconsin's oldest fiber event and sale, The 2011 Door County Shepherd's Market.

Sponsored by The Door County Sheep and Goat Raisers and hosted by Whitefish Bay Farm, the market promotes products from their members' sheep, goats, and camelids, and educated the public about their animals, the fibers they produce, and the traditional handcrafts that utilize these fibers.

More than a dozen vendors offered a wide selection of fibers, yarns, and finished fiber products. Numerous demonstrations and related products could also be viewed. Since you missed this year's market, mark your calendar for next year--it's a "must see."

The Door County Shepherd’s Market is always held in May on the weekend before Memorial Day Weekend. Whitefish Bay Farm devotes an entire barn to the event--vendors sell the wares on the first floor, and the upper floor is devoted to finished goods by local fiber artists.
